Catechol-o-methyl Transferase and Monoamine Oxidase Activity in the Ocular Tissues of Albino Rabbits.

چکیده
The distribution of catechol-O-methyl transferase and monoamine oxidase activity in the ocular tissues of albino rabbits has been determined with a radioactive tracer assay. The distribution of the former varied in the different tissues within a restricted range whereas the distribution of monoamine oxidase activity exhibited larger variations. Sympathetic denervation did not appear to affect catechol-O-methyl transferase levels although moderate decreases in MAO levels were observed one week after denervation. The possible role of these enzymes for catecholamine metabolism in the eye is briefly discussed.

Green tea [Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze] extract reverses the despair behaviour in reserpinised and diabetic mice.
Green tea (C. sinensis) extract (GTE) dose dependently produced reversal of despair in normal, reserpinised and diabetic mice, thereby demonstrating an antidepressant effect. Although the exact mechanism is yet to be explored, the possible inhibition of catechol-o-methyl transferase and monoamine oxidase enzymes may be responsible for antidepressant activity of GTE.

1. L-DOPA was administered to rats by twice daily intraperitoneal injection for a period of eleven days. The daily dose was gradually increased from 250 mg/kg to 1 g/kg. The animals were killed 12 h after the last injection and tissue catechol-O-methyl transferase, DOPA-decarboxylase and monoamine oxidase activity determined.2. Catechol-O-methyl transferase activity was reduced in the liver (46...
متن کاملActivity and thermosensitivity of canine cutaneous veins after inhibition of monoamine oxidase and catechol-O-methyl transferase.
The lateral saphenous vein of the dog was perfused with homologous blood at constant flow. Changes in driving pressure were used to measure active changes in venous tone. Administration of tranylcypromine greatly reduced the activity of monoamine oxidase in the vein and increased its response to electric stimulation of the lumbar sympathetic chain and to norepinephrine infusions. Administration...
متن کاملThe metabolic fate of H3-epinephrine and C14-metanephrine in the rat.
The major metabolites of epinephrine have been recently identified as the 0-methylated derivatives, 3-methoxy-4-hydroxymandelic acid (1)) metanephrine (2)) and 3-methoxy-4hydroxyphenylglycol (3). The corresponding catechols, 3,4dihydroxymandelic acid (4), 3,4-dihydroxyphenylglycol (5)) and epinephrine and its conjugates (6) were found to be minor excretion products. The present study was design...
متن کاملAssociation of adverse effects with monoamine oxidase type B inhibitor and catechol-o-methyl transferase inhibitor combination therapy in Parkinson’s disease patients
Currently, levodopa is the most effective and commonly used medication to control motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease (PD). However, its long-term use is associated with adverse effects (AEs). Combination therapy of a monoamine oxidase type B inhibitor (MAOBI) with levodopa or a catechol-O-methyl transferase inhibitor (COMTI) with levodopa provides benefits to PD patients. Direct comparison o...
